Well, thanks Claudia for remembering me in your list of people to tag for this Wikipedia game, here's my responses to the fun....fun? Ok, well, I was amazed by some of what I learned!

1)1825 - The Erie Canal opens
2)1862 - The largest mass-hanging in US history took place in Mankato, Minnesota, killing 39.
3)1944 - The play The Glass Menagerie by Tennessee Williams is first publicly performed. ( great story - if you haven't read or seen this play, you should)
4)2004 - An earthquake measuring 9.3 on the Richter magnitude scale creates a tsunami causing devastation in Sri Lanka, India, Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, The Maldives and many other areas around the rim of the Indian Ocean, killing more than 200,000.
Third, you are to name two important birthdays on that day.
1) 1979 - Chris Daughtry, American singer (How LUCKY this guy from American Idol is to have the same birthday as me, and I'm Interested to know this!!)
2)1914 - Richard Widmark, American actor (The only other name on the list I knew, a favored actor of mine)
Fourth, you are to name one person whose death occurred on that day.
1985 - Dian Fossey, American gorilla specialist (b. 1932) (What a brave and interesting person)

thanks, i know i remember the boxing day tsunami which devastated teh whole maldives. my family and i were lucky enough to survice.

Thanks for the comments. You are amongst the few people who also agreed that weapons available to everybody is dangerous. In fact we had a case like at VT here too, but as the guy had only knife he could only kill one person, which was already more then enough. I don't want to imagine what would have happened if he had had a gun ! Probably the same as at VT !
